Event: SHFC Conducts Inspection in Silay

Silay City Housing Officer Alore V. Golez reported that representatives from the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) in Manila have conducted a background investigation and preliminary site inspection to the three housing projects under the Localized Community Mortgage Program (LCMP) in Silay City last Thursday and Friday.

Mr. James Mabulay, Irene dela Rosa of SHFC-Manila have visited the LCMP Program in Bonbon Newsite, Universal HOA and Sampaguita Village, all located in Silay City.

A total of 109 beneficiaries will soon have their land titles as soon as the SHFC will approve the funding of the project.

Event: Silay City Government Joins Earthquake Drill

Different government office and departments in Silay City have participated in the conduct of the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), 9am on March 19, 2014. The Silay Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) together with the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) spearheaded the activity in the city.

Jacob T. Crisostomo, Executive Assistants Salvador Ascalon, Jr. and Roy Golez, City Health Educator Alan Rojo and some government employees.

Local News: Silay Gov’t, Mayor Montelibano Get Citation

The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO) has recognized the Silay City TB Directly-Observed Treatment Short course (DOTS) Center as High Performer in Case Detection Rate and Cure Rate TB Program Accomplishment in 2013.

The Silay City Health Office, Mayor Jose L. Montelibano and et al have also received a certificate of recognition from PHO for their unwavering support and implementation of the Integrated TB Information System (ITIS).

Event: Silay Celebrates Women’s Month

The culmination of the 2014 Women’s Month in Silay City was a success. It was lead by the Silay City Committee on Women and Family that was held in Silay City Public Plaza.

The event has two parts.

The first part was the parade of all women organizations in the city and the morning program that includes the solidarity message of NAPC Undersecretary Florecia Doratan and messages from City Councilor Renato Doloso, Soroptimist International-Silay City Chapter Director Mrs. Carmen Flor and Social Welfare and Development Officer Emilea Villavicencio.

The second part of the event was the conduct of the 2014 Mrs. Silay Pageant Night.

Sports: Silay Athletes Receive Awards

The 10-Under Girls Team A and Team Under Boys were hailed as back-to-back champions in the 2014 USLS-VSO-SHARE-NOVA-NOCSF Age-Group Volleyball Championship that was held last February 22-March 23, 2014.

The volleyball champions are the products of the yearly Summer Sports Program in Silay City.

The 14-Under Boys won also as the 1st runner-up, 12-Under Girls and 10-Under Girls. Team B received the 2nd runner-up award.

Their coaches/trainers were Alexander Balili, Ronald Premaylon, John Ledesma, Joel Dequilla and Arno Pescuela.

Event: Silay Liga Intensifies Blood Donation Program

The "Silay City Liga Ng Mga Barangay" intensifies its blood donation program by urging all barangay captains of sixteen barangays in Silay City to conduct a bloodletting.

ABC President Jose "Toti" Lopez said that every barangay in the city must be able to conduct a blood donation program to each barangay twice a year so that there will be ample of blood for Silaynons.

Lopez said that the next schedule of the bloodletting activity will be held on April 27, 2014 in Silay City Public Plaza.

Joshua Junsay, the 16-year old member of the Negros Occidental swimming contingent that joined the recent Western Visayas Regional Athletic Meet in Antique recently called on Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez to present his harvest of six gold medals and a silver, earning him the most be-medalled swimmer for the secondary boys category title.

Local News: DSWD, Silay Pantawid Validate Potential Beneficiaries

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started their validation for the 1,600 potential grantees of the Extended Age Coverage (EAC) of the Pantawid Pamilya in Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center, Silay City.

DSWD Beneficiary Data Management System Focal Mary Grace Prieto said that the validation includes the EAC 15-18 years old.

Local News: PCSO Gives Medical Equipment to Provincial Hospital

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and Super Lucky Beagler, Inc. turned over several advanced medical equipment to Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, worth a total of P1.2 Million, Saturday (April 5).

Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. received the donated equipment from PCSO General Manager, Atty. Jose Ferdinand Rojas, II in a ceremony held at the hospital, together with Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano and Chief of Hospital, Dr. Girlie Pinongan.

Gov. Marañon said he is grateful to PCSO because such donation is a great help to the hospital operations, especially in assisting the needs of the indigents.

Local News: Japanese Ambassador Gives Laptop to 71 Year-Old Woman

Dinah Buenafe Valladarez, 71 year-old Silaynon, received a brand new laptop recently from Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe.

Valladarez, who made a typing job from her student-costumers by using her manual typewriter, will no longer have a hard time on striking typewriter’s keys that are heavy and used to get stuck. Valladarez said she will use the new laptop for her typing job.

Event: ‘Krimen Sang Dios’ to be Staged in Observance of the Lenten Season

The Christian Community Theater Silay Chapter, Inc. will be presenting an Ilonggo adaptation of the 16th century play Trial of God entitled ‘Krimen sang Dios’ as part of its observance of the Lenten Season on April 12 and April 17 at 7:00 pm at the Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center, Silay City.


Photos above depict the various scenes in the stage play, ‘Krimen sang Dios’, which looks closely at the lives of various personalities who will serve as witnesses of God’s role in their lives. The play will be staged on April 12 and 17 at Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center.*

April 12 will be the Sponsors’ night and April 17 is General Patronage night.

‘Krimen sang Dios’ is a contemporary play which looks closely at the lives of various personalities who will serve as witnesses of God’s role in their lives and follows the script written by Armin Paredes, under the direction of Emmanuel Rodriguez, Clarisse Salmingo and Atty. Johanna Jadoc.

Local News: Sexagenarian Died Waiting for Pacquiao-Bradley Match

A 64-year old market collector was declared dead on arrival at Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City while waiting for Pacquiao-Bradley Match, Sunday.

Charito Lurio, of EB Magalona town, according to reports was awaiting for the match to start when she had a stroke or sometimes referred to as cerebrovascular accident.

Event: Silay City celebrates cultural Holy Week

"A Cultural Journey to Salvation" is the theme of Silay Tourism Holy Week Reflection (April 13-20) that is facilitated by Silay Tourism Office in coordination with the Parish of San Diego.

The liturgical celebration started with a Palm Sunday rite held at Plaza Olympia Severino covered court and mass followed at San Diego Pro-Cathedral.

Holy Thursday focuses on a 5 pm – mass highlighted by the dramatization of the Last Supper of the Lord and the procession to transfer the Blessed Sacrament with a sustained vigil of the faithful from 7 pm up to 12 midnight. The play "Krimen sang Dios" will be staged by the Christian Community Theater – Silay (7 pm) at the Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center.

Sports: Mayor Montelibano Opens Silay Sports Fest 2014

Silay City Mayor Jose L. Montelibano has declared open the Silay City Inter-Barangay Sports Fest 2014 held at Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center in Silay City recently.

All sixteen barangays have their representatives in the basketball competitions. Mayor Montelibano said that he will give Php 20,000 worth of projects to champions of the basketball tournament in five categories.

Categories are Bulilit, Aspirants, Juniors, Seniors, and 35-Up.

Event: Silay City celebrates Earth Day

Silay City joins the world in the celebration of Earth Day today in cooperation with IKAW-AKO Japan-Negros Partnership for Environmental Protection on the theme, "Adlaw sang Kalibutan: Adlaw-adlaw, Bisan Diin, kag Para Kay Sin-o Lang".

Mangrove seedling planting and coastal clean-up at Barangay Balaring will be facilitated by Noel Doloriac; city administrator; Jason Benedicto, city agriculturist; and Leo Canson, IKAW-AKO chair.

Local News: Watchman ‘Stabs’ Partner Dead

A subdivision watchman was arrested by police authorities in Silay City after he reportedly attacked his colleague about 6:55AM, Sunday in Brgy. 3.

Silay City Police report revealed Farly Tero, 22, of Purok Paghidaet, Brgy. 3 and watchman of Villa Emma Subdivision was pronounced dead by Dr. Sidney Iledan, of Teresita L. Jalandoni Memorial Provincial Hospital for sustaining multiple stab wounds in the body.

Initial investigation said, Tero was stabbed by fellow-watchman Renante Cartagena, 46, of Zone 5, Brgy. Mambulac and was collared by Jail Officer 2 Ronan dela Cruz Jr., of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City.

Recovered from his possession was a 29-inch bolo with wooden scabbard and placed under the custody of Silay City Police Station.

Meanwhile, Marcelino Watan, 24, of Purok 6, Brgy. 1 in Kabankalan City sustained a single stab wound in the lower abdomen inflicted by unidentified suspect about 12:45AM, Sunday at Brgy. 4 Public Plaza.

Business: 3 Japanese May Introduce Bio-Farm to Negros

Three Japanese nationals - Masaki Koiwai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and agricultural consultant of Japan Bio Farm Co., Ltd., Mitani Yoshihiro, CEO and Pharmacist of Vegifull and Kyoko Nishimoto with Negrense Eleanor A. Fukuda visited the province to seek some raw materials here necessary for the propagation of the so-called "biological farming" in Japan and possibly such technology can be extended to Negros.

Koiwai is an Agricultural doctor that practices organic farming in Japan using "biological farming" or (BLOF) theory.

In BLOF theory, he produces cells with Amino acid and minerals which are essential to plant life. And with the use of half-matured compost, it improves soil aggregate that reduces pathogenic microbes and this reduces disease and insect pest by aerobic and inaerobic microbes.

Event: Silay Summer Workshop Ongoing

Silay City Government has recently launched the "Dagyang Bakasyon sa Isports 2014" as part of its Sports Development Program.

It is a multi-disciplined summer workshop to promote sports tourism. Courses are swimming, volleyball, ping pong, badminton, chess, and football.

Swimming classes started with 60 students’ ages 7 years old to 12 years old enrolled. The venue is at St. Francis Swimming Pool. Instructors are Ronald Santander, Oscar Orquia and Jose Fuentevilla.

Volleyball classes started with 68 beginners and 30 trainees’ ages 16 years old and below enrolled. The venue is at Plaza Covered Court. Coaches are Darna Premaylon, Alex Balili, Arno Pescuela and Fredcel Macabeles.
